I expect a lot when a bakery touts that their red velvet cakes were considered one of Oprah’s favorite things. I mean, it’s Oprah, and y’all know that woman EATS!
Well, I don’t think I can trust Oprah’s taste now because after I took a couple of bites of Doughboys’ red velvet cake, I was over it. I’m not sure how it’s on anyone’s favorite things list. My problem was the cake itself. It was very, very bland, almost as if cocoa powder was left out. Meh.
It wasn’t all bad. Our experience actually started off pretty well, I swear!
The girls and I found parking relatively quickly and only waited about 20-25 minutes for a table (which is GREAT for Sunday brunch). We sat and perused the menu, finally deciding on three items to share. We sipped coffee and chatted while we waited what seemed like FOREVER for our food to arrive. I was so deliriously hungry, I got faked out twice when I saw the waitress come towards us with plates of food, only to turn around and set them on the table next to us. SUPER SAD FACE! Anyway, once we got our own food, I was very satisfied and happy.
LOVE! Yes, the pulled pork and BBQ sauce were delicious, but the bread was the star. It reminded me of naan bread. YUM!!
Warm Portobello Mushroom & Pancetta Salad
Unanimous favorite of the table. Great flavor and I loved the mixture of textures.
Banana Pecan Butterscotch Pancakes
Definitely get this pancake if you like bananas!
So, despite red velvet FAIL, I would come back to Doughboys. I just won’t order the red velvet cake next time.
Verdict: 3.5/5
